1. (C) On July 15, Poloff delivered reftel demarche on the results
of the U.S.-Russia presidential summit to Nurillo Abdullaev, Acting
Americas Desk Chief at Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Abdullaev thanked Poloff for the detailed information. He remarked
that Uzbekistan has been following this issue closely, drawing on
information provided by its Embassies in Moscow and Washington DC.
Furthermore, a Russian diplomat had recently indicated to Abdullaev
that the U.S. and Russia have discussed the transit of military
goods across Russia's territory to support international efforts in
Afghanistan. The Russian also had asked Abdullaev whether
Undersecretary Burns had raised this issue during his recent visit
to Tashkent. Abdullaev had reiterated Uzbekistan's position that
it supports the transit of only commercial, non-military,
non-lethal goods across its territory.
