On December 4th, Poloff delivered reftel demarche to MFA
International Organizations (IO) Desk Officer Pille Kesler. Poloff
thanked Kesler for Estonia's "no" vote against the "Defamation of
Religions" resolution and sought Estonia's views on it and any
input for increasing the amount of "no" votes and abstentions.
Kesler reaffirmed Estonia's support for the EU position that the
concept of religious defamation is not consistent with human rights
law. She did not have any suggestions for strategies to increase
opposition to the resolution but offered to follow up with other IO
staff and members of Estonia's UN Mission in New York.
DECKER
