SUMMARY: Department requests that Embassy Madrid request a bilateral meeting with Spain on Monday, June 15. END SUMMARY. ¶3. ACTION. Department requests that that Embassy Madrid request a bilateral meeting with Spain at The Hague on the afternoon of June 15, prior to the 2009 GICNT Plenary Meeting. This meeting would be with U.S. Head of Delegation, Acting Assistant Secretary for International Security and Nonproliferation C.S. Eliot Kang, and be held at the Ambassador's residence. ¶4. OBJECTIVES. The purpose of this meeting is to: - Thank the Government of Spain for its thorough support of the GICNT and recognize Spain as a major player in the Initiative. - Thank Spain for its GICNT outreach efforts, especially in Latin America, and encourage Spain to continue these efforts. - Discuss possible enhancements to the GICNT. - Solicit GOS input on the direction the GICNT should take. ¶5. REPORTING DEADLINE: Department requests that Post schedule this meeting with the Government of Spain and confirm with U.S. Embassy The Hague (Denny Merideth, AA/S Kang,s control officer) not later than June 10, 2009. ¶6.
