TRAVEL BAN EXEMPTION REQUEST
REF: A. S/AC.41/2009/COMM.1
B. S/AC.41/2009/COMM.1/ADD.1
1. This is an action request. USUN is requested to
immediately inform UKUN that we do not intend to object to
Edwin Snowe's second request for a travel ban exemption. We
consider this request to meet the criteria described in
paragraph 4(c) of UNSC resolution 1521 (2003),where the
Council decided that the travel ban shall not apply if travel
is justified on the grounds of humanitarian need. If UKUN is
able to share information indicating that Snowe's travel ban
exemption request is not credible, USUN should request
Department for further instruction. If UKUN does not have
derogatory information pertaining to Snowe's travel ban
exemption request, USUN is to inform the Chair of the
Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution
1521 (2003) concerning Liberia that the United States does
not object to Edwin Snowe's travel ban exemption request so
that he may pursue further medical treatment in Accra, Ghana.
The extended No Objection Deadline (NOD) is 5 PM Friday, 16
January.
2. The Department appreciates the Mission's efforts.
