UNCLAS STATE 033549 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: OPDC PRELEUN SUBJECT: LETTER FROM SECRETARY CLINTON TO FOREIGN MINISTER KOUCHNER ¶1. Please deliver the following message from Secretary Clinton to Foreign Minister Kouchner. No signed original will follow. ¶2. Begin text: Dear Bernard: Thank you for calling on me in Washington on February 5. I hope you found our meeting as useful as I did. At that meeting, you gave me the concept paper on transatlantic relations prepared during France's EU Presidency. I wanted to let you know that I welcome the generous spirit in which the paper was drafted and that I share the belief that the United States and Europe can and must tackle a difficult agenda together. The topics proposed for our dialogue - effective multilateralism, the Middle East, Afghanistan/Pakistan, and Russia - track very much with my own view of the priority areas for transatlantic dialogue. I believe, and hope you agree, that during the time since that meeting, the United States and Europe have in fact been pursuing a very productive dialogue in just these areas. I want you to know that I personally - and the entire Administration - remain determined to continue to work closely with our EU partners as we pursue this critically important common agenda. Sincerely yours, Hillary Rodham Clinton END TEXT. CLINTON
