1. (SBU) This is an Action Request, please see para. 3.
2. (SBU) Following the Government of Italy,s formal offer of
significant naval assets to support counter piracy operations
off the coast of Somalia, the Department concurs with EMBASSY
Rome,s support for Italy,s request (Ref A) to be included
in the Contact Group on Somali Piracy (CGSP).
3. (SBU) Action Request: EMBASSY Rome is instructed to
approach appropriate GOI officials per the instructions found
in Ref B. Post should additionally note our appreciation for
Italy,s readiness to support the CGSP with military assets.
