1. (U) The following is a note from Special Envoy George
Mitchell. Please distribute to EMBASSY staff as appropriate.
(Begin Text)
Dear Ambassador Beecroft,
I want to thank you and your staff for the exceptional work
in support of my recent visit to Amman. Acting on short
notice and with severe time constraints, you and your team
gracefully executed a challenging schedule that allowed me to
demonstrate the United States commitment to lasting peace in
the region and the priority that the President and the
Secretary place on advancing the two-state solution.
While many people worked to make my visit successful, I would
like to acknowledge the work of several by name. Hanan Cohen
and Benjamin Ball provided excellent overall direction, under
your lead, and skillfully arranged my meetings and briefings.
For logistical arrangements, credit goes to Kristin Rockwood
and Eric Wilson. For flight arrangements, I am very much
appreciative of the efforts of Dave Arnold and the Military
Assistance Program.
I look forward to continuing our work together and to my next
visit to Jordan.
With sincerest thanks,
George J. Mitchell
