E.O. 12958: N/A
TAGS: PREL UNSE OPDC
SUBJECT: KUDOS TO USUN FOR NEGOTATING UNSC RESOLUTION
1888 ON SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Congratulations to you and the USUN team for your
efforts to secure unanimous support in the UN Security
Council to adopt Resolution 1888 -- the follow-up to
Resolution 1820, to address sexual violence in conflict.
I would like to single out the work of USUN's
negotiating team, in particular the work of Ambassador
Rosemary DiCarlo, Erin Kotheimer, Laurie Phipps, and
Tracy Lavin, for their diplomatic mastery in securing
consensus from all delegations on this critical issue.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for a job well done.
The Security Council's commitment to addressing sexual
violence in conflict is critical to ending these
atrocities, and the adoption of UN Security Council
Resolution 1888 is an excellent show of international
consensus to move forward with concrete actions.
