HUMAN RIGHTS PRIORITIES

We delivered reftel demarche to Rakovski Lashev, Head of the
Human Rights Unit at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs on October 22. Lashev said that Bulgaria shares U.S.
human rights priorities and that the Bulgarian delegation
would support the biennial U.S. resolution on free elections
and resolutions on the human rights situations in Iran,
Burma, and North Korea. He stated that Bulgaria strongly
opposes the usage of "no-action motions" in the Third
Committee and has profound reservations against the inclusion
of language on defamation of religion in UN resolutions.
