(SBU) We delivered reftel points to Bulgarian MFA's UN and
Global Issues Directorate's Ekaterina Georgieva, Second
Secretary. Georgieva was pleased to learn the United States
is considering joining the International Renewable Energy
Agency (IRENA),and stated she would pass our preference for
a UAE IRENA Headquarters to the head of the UN and Global
Issues Directorate. Bulgaria is planning to send a
delegation of representatives from the MFA and Ministry of
Energy and Economy to the June 28-30 2nd Session of the
Preparatory Commission in Egypt. The head of delegation has
not yet been appointed. Georgieva told us that any potential
ratification of the IRENA Statute by the GOB would have to
wait until after the July 5 national elections and a new
parliament is in place.
