(S) CDA shared President Obama's statement regarding the
upcoming Afghan elections with MFA Second Permanent Secretary
Bilahari Kausikan on June 22 and urged that Singapore issue a
similar statement in support of the Afghan election process,
confirming Singapore's impartiality with respect to the
presidential candidates and Singapore's support for efforts
to level the playing field for all candidates. Kausikan told
CDA that Singapore shares the USG view that the Afghan
elections should be fair, credible and inclusive. He
indicated that Singapore will consider the USG request that
Singapore issue a statement.
