1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel points on the conclusions of
the Afghanistan-Pakistan Strategic Review and on
Afghanistan's continuing needs to MFA Americas Deputy
Director Loh Tuck Keat and MFA Middle East, North Africa and
Central Asia Assistant Director Stephen Lim April 15. He
called attention to the specific requests for Singapore and
urged that Singapore consider what more it could do to
support the effort in Afghanistan. Keat expressed
appreciation for the information and noted that Singapore
remains committed to contributing in Afghanistan but
regularly reassesses what form its efforts will take.
Singapore is presently focused on implementing its offer to
deploy UAVs to Afghanistan, Keat said.

2. (C) Lim noted that the current deployment of Singapore's
20-man medical team to Uruzgan is scheduled to end in
mid-June, while the deployment of an engineering team to
Bamiyan ended before the onset of winter. Lim added that
Singapore Armed Forces staff officers are conducting needs
assessments in both locations to determine future deployments
to those areas. As the needs assessments are still ongoing,
Lim said he could not yet confirm whether the deployments
would be extended.

3. (C) Poloff thanked Keat and Lim for Singapore's current
contributions and noted that further requests for assistance
from Singapore may be forthcoming.
