(C) In response to the reftel demarche, ROK Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) Director General for South
Asian and Pacific Affairs Choi Jong-moon told Post on May 22
that the ROK Embassy in Islamabad had also reported that the
IDP situation in Pakistan was "very bad." Seoul was prepared
to do its part to help alleviate the grave situation there
and would make an initial contribution of USD 500 thousand,
DG Choi said. Whether this would take the form of bilateral
or multilateral assistance had not yet been determined. Pol
M/C noted that the U.S. had committed to contributing an
additional USD 110 million and urged that Korea consider
further contributions.
