1. (C) Dep Econ Couns on April 8 discussed ROKG support for
Kosovo's IMF and World Bank membership bids with Lee Kang-ho,
Ministry of Strategy and Finance Director for International
Financial Institutions, and Seo Sang-pyo, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade Director for Economic Organizations.
Neither had yet heard from ROKG personnel in Washington about
the issue but both agreed that the ROKG would likely support
Kosovo's bids because it would be consistent with the
recognition that the ROKG had extended to Kosovo.
2. (C) Dep Econ Couns followed up on April 14. Both Lee and
Seo confirmed that the government whad determined to support
Kosovo's membership bids and was in the process of adopting a
formal decision toward that end. Lee noted that the IMF had
requested that votes be submitted by May 5.
