Human Rights and Social Affairs Division Second Secretary
Jung Jin-ho told POLOFF that the ROKG looked favorably upon
U.S. candidacy for membership in the UN Human Rights Council.
As New Zealand had dropped out of the running, Jung noted,
only the U.S., Belgium, and Norway remained to fill the three
vacancies in the Western Group, so U.S. membership was
virtually assured. As a UNHRC member state, the ROK looked
forward to working with the U.S. on the Council.
