(C) In response to reftel, MOFAT's Humanitarian Affairs
Division, which is responsible for UNDP issues, said the ROKG
is still formulating its position on the Iranian candidacy
for the presidency of the UNDP's Executive Board and would
take U.S. concerns into consideration. MOFAT expects the
UNDP board to make a decision the morning of January 9 and
would be open to hearing from the USUN delegation what the
procedural options for delaying or blocking the selection
would be. Our contact said the ROK's decision was delayed by
a lack of information about the process and options.
