SUBJECT: ROK NOTIFICATION OF MISSILE SYSTEM PRODUCTION

(S) On March 12, poloff received the following notification
on the production of a missile system from Kim Hyon-du of the
ROK-U.S. Security Cooperation Division of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade.
BEGIN TEXT:
In accordance with the New Missile Guidelines of the ROKG
adopted on January 17, 2001, the ROKG provides the USG with
information on the production of a missile system as follows:
(a) Name of the missile system: NHK-II PIP
(b) Notification category: Part 3(a) of the New Missile
Guidelines
(c) Name and location of the final production/assembly
facility:
Final production/assembly will be conducted at HANWHA
Corporation in Taejon, Republic of Korea
(d) Number of annual production of the system:
The additional NHK-II PIP Block-A missiles will be produced
as follows.
- FY09: 15 rounds
- FY10: 15 rounds plus 2 rounds (ASP: Annual Service Practice)
- FY11: 15 rounds plus 4 rounds (ASP)
*The first production for deployment of the NHK-II PIP
Block-A missiles, which was notified in the technical
consultation in June 2005, has been completed. Since the
NHK-II PIP Block-B missile is still under development, the
production schedule of the Block-B missiles will be informed
to the USG when it begins.
