(C) On August 12 poloff delivered reftel demarche to Yi
Minhong of the Cultural Policy Division, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). Yi said the ROKG has not
determined which candidate it will support and a decision is
unlikely to be reached before early September. Yi took note
of the candidates which the USG supported but was skeptical
that a consensus could be reached in August. He did not
raise any questions about the Egyptian candidate. Post will
follow up with MOFAT's Cultural Policy Division and report
any updates.
