SUBJECT: BOSNIA - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON POSSIBLE
NOMINEES FOR MINISTER OF SECURITY
Classified By: Ambassador Charles English for Reasons 1.4 (b) and (d)
(C) The Ambassador met with Party of Democratic Action (SDA)
President Sulejman Tihic today, at Tihic's request, to
discuss possible successors for Tarik Sadovic as Minister of
Security. Sadovic lost his job yesterday when the Bosnian
House of Representatives voted to relieve Sadovic of his
ministerial duties. Tihic said he was considering two SDA
politicians as possible successors--Halid Genjac and Senad
Sepic. We do not have a great deal of information on either
candidate, but we have come across rumors and allegations
that Genjac has had some questionable associations in the
past. Sepic is a young (32) Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs
about whom little is known. Tihic asked if we had concerns
about either of these two potential nominees. We would
appreciate it if the Department, on an urgent basis, could
make appropriate checks for derogatory information on these
two politicians so we can respond to Tihic's request.
