1. (SBU) In a diplomatic note received on April 28, the
Foreign Ministry informed Post that the Dominican Republic
will vote in favor of the U.S. candidacy for a seat on the UN
Human Rights Council. Post's translation of the note
follows. The full text will be sent by e-mail to WHA/CAR.

(Traditional diplomatic opening) and has the honor to refer
to your request for support for the candidacy of the United
States of America for the Human Rights Council, for the
period 2009-2012, an election which will be held during the
63rd General Assembly of the United Nations, in New York, in
May 2009.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to inform the
Embassy that the Dominican Government, taking into
consideration the strong ties of friendship and cooperation
between the two countries, has decided to grant its support
to the request mentioned above.
