1. On April 22, the Charge delivered Reftel demarche on the
U.S. candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council to Deputy
Foreign Minister Trullols (the Foreign Minister was
traveling). Trullols said that he would pass the U.S.
diplomatic note and "commitments and pledges" to the Foreign
Minister immediately. Trullols made no substantive comment
on the upcoming vote, other than to note that the Dominicans
have been approached by several other countries seeking their
support. Post will re-approach the GODR and seek a more
definitive position.
