1. (U) Dominican President Leonel Fernandez will attend the
64th UN General Assembly and expects to deliver a speech on
opening day, September 23. According to MFA dip note number
7363 (dated 10SEP2009),he will depart for New York on
September 21 at 10 am, and will stay there until 2 pm on
September 27, 2009.
2. (U) Also in the Dominican delegation will be Foreign
Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, Deputy Foreign Minister
Jose Manuel Trullols, Sub-Secretary Alejandra Liriano and
Sub-Secretary Luis Bogaert.
3. (U) The First Lady, Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez;
Secretary to the Presidency Luis Manuel Bonetti; Danilo
Perez, Personal Assistant to the President; Rafael Nunez,
Press Director and Col. Daisy Ventura, medical doctor, will
also go to New York.
4. (U) Post will provide additional information as this
becomes available, as well as additional names if/as other
members of the delegation are confirmed.
5. (SBU) Note: Ambassador Jocelyn Pou, Head of the MFA's
Department of Multilateral Relations, told Poloffs on
September 4 that a Dominican priority will be to seek a
Security Council seat at the next opportunity. End Note
