Inventory System
Post is able to take advantage of official travel for spot-checking
on an ad hoc basis. However, on-site inspections are infrequent
given the small size of the program. Post supplements personal
inspection with information obtained from Chilean contacts about the
use and status of equipment. Experience has shown the Chileans to
be reliable in their reporting.

DEA conducted the most recent inspection on December 12, 2008.

2. STATUS COMMODITIES
The Carabineros have two 42" plasma televisions and two television
supports, which are in excellent condition. The following equipment
was purchased for the Carabineros in 2007, but the items were stolen
and/or damaged during transit and delivered in an unusable
condition: one computer with a 17" monitor, four desktop computers,
one server, one 17" monitor for the server. Post is working to
resolve the situation and replace the equipment.
Interpol received the following equipment in March 2007: 9 Intel P4
computers, 9 Acer LCD Monitors, 2 Printers, 1 Netgear Prosafe
Switch, and 1 Netgear Smart Switch. The equipment is being used, is
in good working condition.
The Policia de Investigaciones (PDI) Narcotics Unit received the
following items in 2006: One Systemax Mission Small Office server,
twenty Systemax Intel P4 computer hard drives (with warranties and
data security protection),21 Megavision MV177V 17" monitors, 15
Microsoft Windows Server User License agreements, six Microsoft 3PK
OEM Office Basic Packages, two Microsoft 1PK OEM Office Basic
Packages, two Hewlett Packard HP Laserjet 1320n Network Printers,
two Hewlett Packard HP Color Laserjet 3600n Printers, One Netgear
FS108P Prosafe Switch, and one Netgear GS724T 513MB USB Flash Drive.
The PDI-Narcotics unit uses these items are on a daily basis and
they are in good working condition.
Chile's Task Force Arica, composed of Chilean representatives from
PDI-Narcotics, Customs, Coast Guard, and other agencies, received
the following equipment in 2007: 20 workstations, two conference
tables, 45 chairs, nine desks/modular units, 14 cabinets, five
benches/sofas, two waste baskets, one coffee table, one TV rack, one
data show equipment, and one screen and tripod, one Systemax Small
Office server, 20 Intel PCs, 21 monitors, Microsoft Windows License
Agreements, two HP Laser Jet Network Printers, and two HP Color
Laser Jet Printers. In 2008, the task force received the following
equipment: six chairs, six workstations, one laser printer, one
computer monitor, one serve, and six computers. The equipment is in
good condition and allows the task force to share information.

4. STATUS SERVICES
The Carabineros and the PDI participated in a week-long training
course in Santiago in November 2008. The course funded by INL and
organized by DEA, provided training in undercover narcotics
operations for 15 members of each organization.

5. PROGRAM IMPACT
The government of Chile appreciates the equipment and services
provided by INL funds. The equipment enhances communication,
encourages information sharing, and strengthens Chile's
anti-narcotics and anti-crime efforts. It also increases
cooperation between Chilean and Post law enforcement communities.
