1. (C) Ambassador Paul E. Simons formally concurs, per reftel
guidance, with EMBASSY Santiago's proposal for FY2010 Section 1206
funding. The proposal is designed to strengthen Chile's capacity
to conduct counter-terrorism activities and deepen the already
outstanding relationship between the United States and Chile. The
1206 proposal, submitted in septel, would fund specialized
individual gear and training. The requested funding amount is USD
714,000.
2. (U) Post also affirms that it is not aware of credible evidence
of gross violations of human rights by the unit to which assistance
would be provided under this authorization.
