IN EXPORT LICENSING

Econoff delivered demarche (ref A) to the Chilean Ministry of
Foreign Affairs General Directorate of International Economic
Affairs (DIRECON),the trade ministry equivalent. Econoff conveyed
the points and supporting demarche materials to Manuel Jose Prieto,
Head of the North America Department, and Jeff Peet, U.S. Desk
Officer. Despite delivery of an earlier demarche on this
initiative in June (ref B),Prieto and Peet did not indicate that
Chile had developed a position yet. They promised to distribute
the materials to other departments as needed and report back to
Econoff with any formal decision.
