An explosive device detonated at the Marriott Hotel's parking lot on Ave. Kennedy at 1:57 p.m. yesterday. The device was left in the hotel's bathroom but was taken outside by a hotel guard. One guard was injured and five other people suffered hearing trauma. No organization has claimed responsibility (All dailies). Bomb detonates at the Marriott Hotel ¶2. The surveillance camera at the Marriott Hotel recorded a man dressed in black, wearing a hat and what appears to be a fake beard walking into the Marriott's bathroom carrying a black bag and then leaving quickly without it. Stories differ. One daily says a guard became suspicious and checked the bathroom after the man left. He found the bag and took it to the parking lot where it exploded (La Tercera, 11/4). Another daily says that the guard found the bag in the bathroom during a regular check and handed it to the Welcome Desk thinking that a passenger had accidentally left it behind. Reportedly, at that moment the hotel received a bomb threat and the guard immediately took the bag outside where it detonated. Since 2004, there have been 100 other similar incidents for which different anarchist organizations have claimed responsibility (El Mercurio, 11/4). ¶3. Sources tied to the investigation of the bombing labeled the device that detonated "lethal," adding that it was different from all other devices used in previous incidents. The bomb was manufactured by experts, they warned, noting the mix of explosives used to make it more effective in confined spaces and that it had an electronic timer (El Mercurio, 11/4). IPR ¶4. The Chamber of Deputies voted against Article 85 of the Intellectual Property Law. The article in question establishes the responsibility of Internet providers to block access for users believed to be using material in violation of the IPR law at the request of the owners of those rights and invests courts with extra-judicial authority to cut Internet access for the same reason. "We voted for 99 percent of the provisions in this law, but cannot allow someone's access to be cut off on the basis of a sole suspicion," said Congressman Dario Paya (El Mercurio, 11/4). SIMONS
