By way of a diplomatic note, Embassy requested June 5 GOES
support for the candidacy of Lucretia Myers to the UN
International Civil Service Commission. Egriselda Gonzalez,
Desk Officer in Charge of Candidacies, told us June 10 that
the GOES is waiting to see whether additional candidates join
the race before taking an official stance. Gonzalez said
Brazil and Mexico had also asked for support, which makes
three candidates for five openings. She said the GOES would
respond further in August or September.
