SUBJECT: EL SALVADOR: U.S. WTO REMANUFACTURING INITIATIVE

(SBU) Econcouns and Japanese Econcouns Kazuhito Nakamura jointly
delivered reftel demarche on the U.S. WTO remanufacturing initiative
to Carlos Moreno, Director of Trade Policy at the Ministry of
Economy, on October 29. Moreno replied that the GOES appreciated
the offer from the US, Japan, and Switzerland to become a co-sponsor
of the initiative. Before the GOES could take a final position,
however, he needed to consult with counterparts at the Ministry of
Finance and Ministry of Environment, as well as key private sector
stakeholders. Moreno promised to convey the GOES's final position
as soon as possible to the U.S. and Japanese Embassies in El
Salvador and through El Salvador's Mission in Geneva.
