(SBU) Following is an interim response regarding GOI
attendance at the 64th UN General Assembly. Post will
continue to engage the MFA in an effort to obtain additional
attendance information and report same
as soon as available:
¶A. Attendance of the Head of State:
-- No plan to attend.
¶B. Attendance of Head of Government:
-- Post has received unofficial notification from Leonardo
Bencini, MFA UN desk officer, that Silvio Berlusconi,
President of the Council of Ministers (popularly referred to
as Prime Minister),will attend the 64th UN General Assembly.
-- Arrival/departure info pending
-- Spouse not traveling.
-- Interpretation info pending
¶C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister:
-- Post has received unofficial notification from Giuseppe
Fedele, First Secretary on the FM's staff, that Foreign
Minister Frattini will attend.
-- Arrive in New York September 20, depart New York evening
of September 25.
-- May be traveling with companion. Details pending.
-- Interpretation not likely to be requested.
¶D. Attendance of other VIPs:
-- Chief Diplomatic Advisor Min. Bruno Archi will likely
attend to accompany PM Berlusconi. Details pending.
