C) Political Military Counselor extended reftel invitation
for Italian participation in the U.S.-hosted meeting on Gaza
arms interdiction through MFA NATO Director Massimo Marrotti,
who is coordinating the GOI participation in the innaugural
meeting of the Contact Group on Somali Piracy on February
13-14. Marotti indicated that Italy readily accepts the
invitation, but due to the short lead time, the MFA had not
made a final decision on the GOI representative to the
Contact Group meeting and the special Gaza-related session.
At this point, Italian UN PermRep Giulio Terzi will probably
represent Italy for both sessions, perhaps reinforced by
experts from Rome.
