1. (C) Italy agrees with the USG views and suggested
questions and recommendations for the upcoming U.N. Human
Rights Council's (HRC) Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the
DPRK according to MFA Human Rights Office Director Laura
Carpini. Carpini commented that the proposed questions were
thorough and deep. She asserted that the GOI continues its
path of being closely aligned with the USG on how to move
forward with the DPRK. The GOI would cooperate fully on
making the exercise "fruitful and meaningful."
