PHIPPS FOR REASONS 1.4 (B) AND (D) (C) Pol/Econ Off delivered reftel demarche to Dana Rudaka, the Deputy Head of the Latvian MFA's Asia, Africa and Oceania Division and Margarita Tumane, First Secretary in the same division with responsibilty for Southeast Asia. Rudaka appreciated the information and said that Latvia will continue to follow the EU position on Burma, which also seeks democratic reforms. Rudaka noted that Latvia has no diplomatic relations with Burma and little to no commercial contact with Burma. However, Latvia does raise the issues in Burma when it meets with representatives of other Asian countries, such as China. GARBER
