SUBJECT: LATVIAN PM RESIGNS
On the afternoon of February 20, Latvian Prime Minister Ivars
Godmanis submitted his resignation to President Zatlers, who
accepted the resignation. Godmanis and his government remain in
place in a caretaker role, and will do so until the Saeima
(Parliament) confirms a new cabinet. The President must choose a
candidate to form a new government, and we are informed that Zatlers
has invited all political parties represented in the Saeima to a
meeting on Monday for discussions. The Presidency has not indicated
a timeline for the process.
