1. (C) Aung San Suu Kyi (ASSK) met with her lawyers for two
hours August 27 to finalize her appeal. In a brief
conversation on August 28, ASSK attorney and NLD spokesperson
Nyan Win told us that her legal team will submit the appeal
to the Divisional Court on September 1.
2. (C) Nyan Win informed ASSK at the meeting that a
delegation of Congressional staff members is visiting Burma
and has a meeting scheduled with the National League for
Democracy Central Executive Committee (Note: that meeting
will take place late on August 28). Nyan Win reported that
he asked ASSK her thoughts on U.S. humanitarian assistance to
Burma. She reportedly told Nyan Win to convey to the staff
members that she supports humanitarian assistance if it is
delivered transparently.
