1. (S/NF) On November 26, 2008 and December 4, 2008 DAO
Rangoon tested the suspected material described in RefTels A
and B. DAO Rangoon used an "identiFinder" Field Spectrometer
that detected no evidence of RADIOACTIVE material at the time
of testing. The sample results were forwarded to WashDC for
DoD and DoE analysis. DoD and DoE analysts were able to
identify one low level Thorium peak, but nothing suspect or
out of the ordinary was discovered in the analysis.
Washington's assessment of the suspected material is that it
is the same kind of earth/dirt found in a home garden. Based
on the advice of DOE, DOD advised USDAO that the sample could
be disposed of locally with no hazard to life, safety or
health.
2. (S/NF) On January 20, 2009, ARSO retrieved the sample
material from the old Chancery and turned it over, on the
spot, to the USDAO OpsNCO for disposal. RSO considers the
incident and investigation closed.
