1. (SBU) National League for Democracy (NLD) spokesman Nyan
Win confirmed press reports that two NLD members have been
sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for "defaming religion."
Chit Phay and U Maung Soe Wai were arrested at their homes
on April 22 after participating in a prayer group that called
for the regime to release Aung San Suu Kyi and all political
prisoners (reftel). In the past, authorities have disrupted
similar prayer groups.
2. (C) Nyan Win reported that three NLD youth members
arrested on June 12 remain in custody. Nyan Win said that
Aung Aung Oo, Kyaw Win Tun, and Kyaw Myo Naing have not yet
been charged with any crimes, but he relayed unconfirmed
rumors the three may be charged with possession of
explosives.
