O'Neill for Reasons 1.4 (b) & (d) ¶1. (SBU) Aung San Suu Kyi (ASSK) lawyer and NLD spokesman Nyan Win informed us that on June 11 the Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments in ASSK's appeal to admit two defense witnesses who were excluded from testifying in her trial (reftel). The Rangoon branch of the high court has scheduled oral arguments for June 17. Given the nature of the case, Nyan Win did not want to speculate as to how long it will take the Supreme Court to rule on the appeal. ¶2. (SBU) With the Supreme Court appeal pending, Nyan Win said he does not expect the trial of ASSK, her two aides, and American citizen John Yettaw to conclude until after the high court has ruled. The next regular trial session is still scheduled to take place June 12. Vice Consul will attend those proceedings. DINGER
