1. The following are answers to questions posed in Ref A:
-- The Ministry of Health (MOH) has one old thermal scanner
at the Rangoon International Airport. According to WHO
Country Representative Adik Wibowo, the thermal scanner is
made by Singapore Technology Electronic Company and has two
parts: the infrared heat calibrator is made by
American-owned Omega Company, model BB702, and the camera is
made by Italian-owned Manfrotto Company, model 486RC2. The
MOH is using laser temperature gauges to monitor temperatures
at other ports of entry.
-- The MOH is scanning all passengers arriving at the
Rangoon International Airport, the Mandalay International
Airport, the Thilawa Port of Rangoon, and 16 border
crossings. Incoming visitors on all flights and boats,
regardless of origin, are scanned.
-- The MOH defines "elevated temperature" as 100 degrees
Fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius or higher.
-- In addition to monitoring temperatures of incoming
visitors, the Ministry of Health requires visitors to fill
out an influenza health card, detailing prior contact with
influenza cases and travel during the previous 10 days (Ref
B). According to Deputy Director of Health Dr. Kyaw Nyunt
Sein, a visitor with only an elevated temperature will not be
quarantined. If s/he has a temperature, other flu-like
symptoms, and has travelled in an A/H1N1-infected country,
the individual may be quarantined. Only the individual with
flu-like symptoms will be quarantined, rather than all
persons traveling with the infected individual, Dr. Kyaw
Nyunt Sein explained.
