1. (SBU) CDA chaired Embassy Rangoon's Emergency Action
Committee (EAC) April 30 to review Post's contingency plans,
as well as the Government of Burma's (GOB) pandemic
preparedness activities. The EAC confirmed that Post has
adequate supplies of personal protective equipment and enough
tamiflu to treat American Embassy personnel and families (Ref
A),and agreed on the need to maintain flexibility regarding
tripwires until more about the H1N1 pandemic is known. Post
also issued a warden message April 30 based on Ref B as well
as a management notice to the Embassy community.
2. (SBU) Post has taken the following additional actions:
1) obtained information on the actions taken by the Burmese
Government, World Health Organization, and Food and
Agricultural Association in Burma; 2) coordinated with other
donor organizations; and 3) consulted with the Regional
Medical Office and USAID Public Health Office in Bangkok.
3. (U) Embassy Rangoon will be closed for a local holiday
on May 1. We will continue to coordinate with local GOB and
UN officials and with regional offices in Bangkok on any new
developments as necessary over the holiday and weekend.
