1. (SBU) In the past week, Kosovo's National Institute of Public
Health (NIPH) has confirmed the country's first two cases of the
H1N1 virus. From six samples sent to WHO laboratories for further
testing, the first case, a nine-year old resident of the U.K., was
confirmed on July 28. The child and his family have been under
observation while waiting for the test results and had displayed no
flu-like symptoms. On July 31, NIPH confirmed Kosovo's second case
of the virus, a seventeen-year old resident of Ireland, who is also
under observation. All persons with confirmed or suspected H1N1
cases to date are temporary visitors to Kosovo, who have traveled
through areas with documented cases of the virus before arriving in
country.
2. (SBU) Post will continue to monitor and report any further H1N1
developments in Kosovo.
