1. (U) On February 12, POLOFF made ref A points to Brinda
Trilok, U.S. Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Interestingly enough, Ms. Trilok was just rotated back into
the position after working on Eastern European issues,
including Kosovo, for several months. While acknowledging
the progress in the security situation and other indicators
in Kosovo, Ms. Trilok noted that the GOM would stand on its
position to not recognize Kosovo.
2. (C) Comment: Despite initial promising discussions with
GOM at the onset of Kosovo's movement towards independence,
recent demarches suggest that GOM is unlikely to recognize
Kosovo. Post has delivered various high-level demarches to
debunk the linkages between Kosovo and the Chagos
Archipelago, but as long as even the smallest link of
territorial integrity can be argued, Post doubts that
Mauritius will change its position. End Comment.
