1. (SBU) PolOff requested details on the Haitian delegation
at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York
from Director General (International Affairs) of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (MFA),Azad Belfort, on July 24, 2009.
Belfort conveyed that the MFA could not confirm any travel
plans, but that President Rene Preval and the Minister of
Foreign Affairs Alrich Nicolas are expected to attend.
2. (SBU) Attendance of members of Haitian Government:
A. Rene Preval, President of the Republic of Haiti
-- Tentative travel dates: 20-30 September 2009, New York. He
will attend the General Assembly.
-- Preval will not be accompanied by spouse or family.
-- Interpretation from French to English, and vice-versa,
will be needed in both bilateral and multilateral meetings.
B. Michelle D. Pierre-Louis, Prime Minister, will not be
attending the UNGA.
C. Alrich Nicolas, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Haiti
-- Tentative travel dates: 20-30 September 2009, New York. He
will attend the General Assembly.
-- Nicolas will not be accompanied by spouse or family.
-- Interpretation from French to English, and vice-versa,
will be needed in both bilateral and multilateral meetings.
D. No other VIP members of the Government of Haiti are
officially expected to travel to the UNGA at this time.
3. (U) Post will forward exact travel plans once made
available.
