1. (C) Acting Pol/Econ Chief delivered reftel demarch and
talking points June 30 to Hos Sereythong, Director, Asia 1
Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs an International
Cooperation. He noted that while he was familiar with press
reports regarding the vessel in question, he had not yet
received any official information from his government
regarding its response. He said that he would share this
information with the relevant officials.
2. (C) Hos Sereythong acknowledged that Burmese cooperation
in this matter is a positive development. However, when
encouraged to urge the Burmese to accept third party
involvement in inspections, he reiterated the Royal
Government of Cambodia's policy to adhere to ASEAN's
principles of non-intervention and respect for national
sovereignty.
