1. (U) The election of members of the Executive Board took place on
Wednesday, 14 October 2009. The names of the Member States elected
to the Executive Board were announced at the plenary meeting by Mr.
Khamlihne Nhouyvanisvong (Laos),Chairperson of the Nominations
Committee. 182 Member States were entitled to vote at the session.

8. (U) Chairperson Nhouyvanisvong of the Nominations Committee
(Laos) was assisted by Ms Irhne Rabenoro (Madagascar),
Vice-President of the General Conference who supervised these
elections and the six tellers, Ms Meritxell Font Vilagines (Andorra,
Group I),Ms Tatiana Mitushina (Russian Federation, Group II),Ms
Montserrat Vargas Solorzano (Costa Rica, Group III),Ms Anne Siwicki
(Australia, Group IV),Mr Philip Ochen Odida (Uganda, Group V (a))
and Ms Cheryl Ghostine (Lebanon, Group V (b)) in overseeing the
electoral process.


9. (U) All geographic groups had clean slates, (an equal number of
candidates for an equal number of vacant seats),with the exception
of Group III and Group IV. The only country in Group III that was
not elected was Uruguay. The only country in Group IV that was not
elected was the Solomon Islands.


10. (U) With these election results, the composition of the full
UNESCO Executive Board (58 members) for the period 2009-2011 is as
follows:
