possible options for October 7 meeting on Iran to MFA's
Disarmament DAS Martin Briens, nonproliferation officer
Florent Aydalot and Middle East DAS Jean-Baptiste Faivre, per
reftel. Briens reported that he would lead the Government of
France (GOF) delegation to Washington and he would be joined
by MFA nonproliferation officer Celine Jurgensen and a yet to
be decided representative from the French Treasury. Briens
said he was familiar with the menu of choices, he had already
sent his comments on the menu to Washington interlocutors
during earlier discussions of the document and that the GOF
was in nearly complete agreement with the menu. However,
Briens noted that the menu included the termination of
existing correspondent banking relations that the GOF had
asked to be removed from consideration in earlier discussions
(but Britain favored) and it excluded sanctions on refined
petroleum products, which the GOF wanted added. Still,
Briens said the GOF would not oppose the menu.
