1. (U) The United States does not have an established security
dialogue with Suriname. Post is covered by the DATT in Brasilia.
Post has a Military Liaison Office that coordinates IMET, FMF, and
1206 programs.
2. (U) The United States and Suriname have three defense-related
treaties. The most recent agreement is a 2009 update, via
Diplomatic Note, to include 1206-related provisions, to the 1980
Agreement concerning the provision of training related to defense
articles under the United States International Military Education
and Training (IMET) Program. A 2005 Agreement regarding the status
of United States personnel who may be temporarily present in the
Republic of Suriname is the governing Status of Forces Agreement
(SOFA). There is also a 1996 Agreement regarding the status of
U.S. Special Forces Deployment for Training Exercise Mission.
