Panama to Attend
--------------
(SBU) Panama will participate in the May 29 meeting of the
Contact Group on Piracy Off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS),
being hosted by the USG in New York, MFA Director General for
Multilateral Affairs Delia Villamonte told POLOFF May 8.
Villamonte said that the MFA was planning to have Panamanian
Ambassador to the UN Yavel Francis and Panamanian Ambassador
to the International Maritime Organization Lilian Fernandez
represent Panama at the meeting. Villamonte said that they
had not yet received the invitation sent by the Department of
State, but had already begun developing plans to attend if
only as observers. She said the GOP was very eager to
participate in the meeting. She had no substantive response
to the specific points in reftel concerning the agenda.
