SUBJECT: CANADA TO PROVIDE FOUR MILLION DOLLARS FOR
HUMANITARIAN AID IN GAZA

(SBU) On January 5, in response to reftel points, Pam
Isfeld, Deputy Director, Middle East Relations, Department of
Foreign Affairs and International Trade, said that although
it has not yet been announced, Canada has already donated
four million Canadian dollars to provide humanitarian relief
to citizens of Gaza. Three million dollars has been given to
the UNRWA and one million to the International Committee of
the Red Cross. The Government of Canada will issue a press
release on this donation in the immediate future - possibly
as early as this afternoon.
