(C) On June 15 Petroleum Ministry Assistant Director
General Oivind Johanssen confirmed that Norway will soon
formally ratify the International Renewable Energy Agency
(IRENA) Statute. The Norwegian Parliament consented to the
Statute last week, and he viewed ratification as a "done
deal." Johanssen stressed that, though the decision is not
public, Norwegian FM Stoere supports Germany for IRENA
headquarters. The choice of Director General is less clear:
Johanssen believes that the GON will likely support a DG from
its Scandinavian cousin, Denmark. Post will continue to
monitor the issue and report any substantive information.
