(SBU) On September 11, POLOFF delivered reftel message on USG
goals and objectives for the upcoming UN General Assembly to
Counselor Marios Kountourides and Second Secretary Alexis
Phedonos-Valet in the MFA's Department of Multilateral
Affairs and International Organizations. Kountourides stated
that GOC welcomed the goals and ideas expressed, and
considers the USG approach "good news." Kountourides shared
that human rights and the environment are two areas of
particular concern world-wide, and he believes that the new
USG approach on these issues "would win the U.S. many new
friends." Kountourides said that he hoped the USG approach
would encourage other countries to adopt a similar approach
towards these important issues.
